In 2010 my father asked me to create a wine for him. He was in his 80's and he wanted a lighter style red wine, not a rose, but a light red with low alcohol and a good price.
When the 2011 vintage came in the Barossa we were offered a long wet and cool vintage. Ironically, perfect for the creation of a rich but lighter style red wine.
To create this wine we crushed a small percentage of Viognier with the Shiraz and after some time on skins we removed half of the skins before allowing the wine to sit in the fermenters until is was just right.
We then pressed the wine and transferred it to new and older French oak. We then bottled the wine and after releasing it in 2012 we put a pallet aside. This wine is that pallet.
In the 1947-48 Green Shield cricket season, my father Dr Howard Godfrey took 38 Wickets bowling for Mosman, NSW. This is his wine and after he passed away at the end of 2014 we offer this wine as a tribute to him and his wonderful legacy of three boys and six grandchildren.
