Sandy Godfrey started Godfrey Wines in 2008. From 2008 he knew that in order to be a competitive small wine business in Australia he would need to create a new model that maintained low capital intensity and versatility of production. As such he purchases fruit from well-established grape growers to make the wines he wants. Sandy built a winery in the small town of Springton in Eden Valley, South Australia and made wines there from 2008 to 2015.
In 2016 Sandy started making wines with high-end fruit from Orange, NSW including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Rose, Shiraz and Cabernet. All of the wines are barrel fermented, use minimal additives and are unfiltered.
The Alice Sauvignon Blanc is maturing beautifully in bottle, with hints of older French Oak and length from time on yeast lees.
The Poppy Belle Chardonnay spent 12 months in new French Oak and is rich and powerful, reminiscent of classic Australian oaked Chardonnay.
The Charlotte Pinot Noir has just settled into a beautiful drinking rhythm with lighter tannins, savoury fruit characters and new French Oak to finish. Stocks are extremely limited. Click here to order.
The POLISHED Shiraz Cabernet is the classic Australian red, with lashings of fruit, tannin and oak it is our biggest selling wine and happily one for the cellar too. Since it's first vintage in 2006 it has earnt it's reputation for always being Smooth, Rich and Elegant.
The Edward Shiraz is named for Sandy's eldest and since the first vintage in 2010 it is always the best Shiraz from the vintage. The 2019 is no exception, it was a stand out wine in the barrel and we are looking forward to watching it develop over time, much like young Edward is.
